Foil Insulation Inspections

Monday, 22 February 2010

Matt Electric is urging Gold Coast residents to err on the side of safety when it comes to having their home's foil insulation tested for potential safety risks.

Foil insulation inspections are now being carried out in every home installed with the potentially deadly foil insulation.
All homes that have had foil insulation installed under the Australian Government’s Home Insulation Program are eligible to have an electrical safety inspection.  This is a precautionary measure being rolled out to ensure householder safety.

The Government is strongly encouraging householders to take advantage of the electrical inspection as soon as possible.
Inspections need to be carried out by licensed electricians.  Please click here for information on householder eligibility.

Matt Electric has been inundated with calls from residents concerned about the safety of their homes. There has been 4 deaths so far, and potentially more deaths and electrocutions to come. The problem is the staples, used to fix the foil insulation can pierce the electrical cables in the roof, which causes the foil to be electrified. When a human comes into contact with the foil, without adequate protective clothing - they can be electrocuted.  If downlights are covered over by foil, a severe fire hazard exists which may go undetected until its too late.

Managing Director of Matt Electric said “We strenuously recommend people do not enter their ceilings without having an inspection done first. Inspections are free for eligible home owners. For the safety of your home and family, we are encouraging residents to have the inspections done and as a Master Electrician, Matt Electric can provide a fully licensed electrician to carry out the audit”.  Please click here for more information on the accreditation of Master Electricians carrying out Foil Inspections.
